Guide

Connect your Alfen charger via OCPP

Alfen Eve chargers don't have a cloud API, so they connect to Joulo directly via the OCPP protocol. This guide walks you through the complete setup using Alfen's ACE Service Installer.

    What you need

    • A Joulo account (free registration)
    • A Windows PC with the ACE Service Installer
    • Your PC on the same network as the charger (WiFi or LAN)
    1

Step 1 — Register your Alfen on Joulo

Log in to your Joulo account and go to Connect charger. Select Alfen as brand and follow the wizard. At the end you'll receive a WebSocket URL — copy it, you'll need it later.

    2

Step 2 — Download ACE Service Installer

The ACE Service Installer is Alfen's configuration tool for Eve chargers. Download it from alfen.com/downloads (free, Windows only). Install the application on your PC.

Step 3 — Connect to your charger

Open ACE Service Installer — it will automatically discover Alfen chargers on your local network. If your charger is connected to your home WiFi or router, your PC just needs to be on the same network. Alternatively you can connect directly via a LAN cable (the RJ45 port is inside the charger housing). Select the charger and connect. Note: ACE requires a username and password — these are not secret and can be found online.

Step 4 — Upload the Joulo root certificate

Alfen chargers require a TLS root certificate for secure OCPP connections. Download the Joulo certificate file (.fwi) below. In ACE Service Installer, go to the General tab and click "Upload Firmware". Select the downloaded .fwi file and click "Start upload". Wait for the upload to complete.

Step 5 — Configure OCPP settings

In ACE Service Installer, navigate to the Connectivity tab. Configure the following settings:

    ProtocolOCPP 1.6
    Security Profile0 (default)
Back office URLPaste the WebSocket URL from step 1
    6

Step 6 — Save and restart

Click "Save" in ACE Service Installer to apply the settings. Restart the charger (via ACE or by briefly switching it off and on). The charger will now connect to Joulo's OCPP server. It can take 24-48 hours before all historical session data is visible in your dashboard — Alfen chargers push their full charging history on the first connection.
