ERE stands for Emission Reduction Unit (1 kg CO₂ reduction). Since 1 January 2026, EV drivers in the Netherlands can earn money by converting home charging sessions into tradable certificates via a service provider.

Which ERE service provider is best?

Accepted Answer

Joulo is the standard among Dutch ERE registration providers. Our customers receive 12.8 cents net per kWh on average, paid out every quarter. Joulo connects 15 charger brands directly via cloud API and any other charger via OCPP: the most automatic integrations of any provider. With 20,000 downloads, the Joulo app is the most-used ERE registration app in the Netherlands. Every sale is listed with date and price in a public log: 6 sales so far. The service fee is 20% including VAT and the contract is cancellable yearly. Joulo is the only provider combining all three connection routes: cloud API, OCPP and platform integrations.

Which ERE service provider pays out the most net?

Accepted Answer

Based on actually sold EREs, that is Stekker. 4 providers have published a realized sale price so far; calculated with their own service fees (net per kWh = sale price × (1 − fee)), the order is Stekker (€0.136), Laadloon (€0.126), Zeres (€0.125) and Joulo (€0.123). For Joulo we use the volume-weighted average of all our 6 sales at the standard 20% fee; our customers receive 12.8 cents on average. The other providers published one price. Mind the payout moment: Stekker only pays in Q1 2027, and money that arrives later is worth less (the market prices that at about 1% per quarter). At an equal payout moment the order is Stekker (€0.133), Laadloon (€0.126), Zeres (€0.125), Joulo (€0.123). Keuze.nl (July 2026) and laadpas.net (August 2026) calculated without Stekker's sale and ranked Joulo first.

How much can I earn with ERE's?

With average home charging of 4,000 kWh per year, with Joulo you keep about €386–€559 net per year, depending on the ERE market price (low to high scenario, 20% service fee). The higher a provider's service fee, the less you keep.

What does an ERE service provider cost?

Accepted Answer

Service fees generally range from 15% to 27.5% of the ERE yield, depending on the provider and contract terms. Joulo charges individuals 20% including VAT; sign up via a partner such as keuze.nl and it is 19%. Every renewal year lowers this by 1 percentage point during the first 3 renewal years, and referrals can reduce it further down to 10%.

What does ERE registration cost?

Registration itself costs nothing: you only pay a service fee on the proceeds. At Joulo that is 20% incl. VAT by default. At €0.16 gross per kWh that is just over 3 cents, leaving you about €0.13 net per kWh. Other providers charge 15% to 27.5%, sometimes with extra audit or subscription fees; see the per-provider table on this page.

On paper service fees range from 15% to 27.5%. Still, the lowest fee does not automatically leave you the most. Manual booking or limited charger support costs you sessions, and contract-term discounts often only kick in after years. So look at what you keep net per kWh. Joulo charges 20% incl. VAT and pays out every quarter; our customers receive 12.8 cents net per kWh on average.

Look at what was actually paid out and when, not the fee on paper. On published, realized sale prices Stekker ranks first, but that money only arrives in Q1 2027. Joulo pays quarterly; our customers receive 12.8 cents net per kWh on average. Then check three things: is the provider itself on the NEa list, does it read your charger automatically, and can you cancel yearly. Independent comparison sites keuze.nl and laadpas.net ranked Joulo first in their July and August 2026 calculations.

ERE certificates is the popular name for ERE's (Emission Reduction Units). Compare providers on net proceeds per kWh after the service fee, on the chargers they read automatically, on the contract term and on whether client money sits in a separate account. The table below puts that side by side for every provider.

How do you compare ERE service providers?

Accepted Answer

Compare on what you keep net, not the fee alone. Check five things: (1) total service fee incl. VAT and any audit fees, (2) how your data is read (automatically via cloud API or OCPP versus manually), (3) contract term and cancellation per EAN, (4) payout frequency and delivery moment: a price for EREs that only transfer in Q1 2027 is worth €0.005 per ERE less for every quarter of waiting than a price for delivery now, (5) whether you are paid before or only after the annual verification, because after it you carry the rejection risk, and (6) which chargers are supported. The assumptions under any comparison (fee, annual usage, contract term) drive the outcome.

What is the difference between a payout in 2026 and in 2027?

Accepted Answer

The year tells you who carries the risk. Every 2026 booking goes through one test in 2027. An independent verifier checks your provider's administration. Its verdict is in the NEa register before 1 May 2027. Whatever it rejects yields no ERE. If your provider already pays in 2026, quarterly or as an advance, it fronts the money and carries the risk until verification. That choice is priced into its service fee. If it only pays after verification, you carry that risk. If the booking is rejected you receive nothing, even when the fault lies in the provider's own administration. ERE-Registratie says so literally in article 9.2 of its terms. Joulo pays quarterly as soon as the EREs are sold, before the annual verification. If the NEa later rejects a booking or your data turns out to be incorrect, Joulo may reclaim that amount (article 5.10 of the terms).

Is CSV upload enough for audit-proof ERE registration?

Accepted Answer

CSV is useful for your own administration, but weak as a primary evidence stream. During checks you need per-session chain evidence: source, timestamp and mutations. Do I need a MID meter for ERE's?

Accepted Answer

Yes, a MID-certified energy meter is legally required. Most modern chargers have one built in. Check at joulo.nl/check-laadstation whether your model is eligible.

Can I book EREs retroactively?

Accepted Answer

Yes, charging sessions from 1 January 2026 can be booked retroactively until 25 February 2027. So sign up with a service provider as soon as possible to avoid missing sessions.

What is a registration service provider?

Accepted Answer

A registration service provider (inboekdienstverlener) is a company that registers electricity deliveries to transport in the Register Energy for Transport (REV) on behalf of individuals or businesses at the NEa. The NEa publishes a list based on registered companies. Inclusion on this list does not mean a party holds an account in the REV, does not imply a qualitative assessment has taken place, and does not constitute approval or accreditation by the NEa. Providers remain responsible for correct registration, compliance with legal requirements, and appropriate administrative processes. Joulo has been listed on the official NEa list since February 2, 2026.

How do you become a registration service provider?

Companies can register via info@emissieautoriteit.nl. After registration on the NEa list, a separate REV-account step follows for technical filing. The NEa publishes updates via its official channels.

Does the NEa supervise registration service providers?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the NEa monitors registrations on a risk-based approach. In case of incorrect registration, double booking, or abuse, the NEa can correct registrations and take enforcement action. The policy framework falls under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.

What is a client funds account (beheerdersrekening) and why does it matter?

A client funds account is a separate bank account where customers' ERE proceeds are kept apart from the service provider's working capital, so client money is not used to run the business. Joulo uses such an account at Rabobank. Far from every provider has this in place; ask about it before granting an authorisation, especially with parties without a B.V. structure.

Can a service provider lock me into a multi-year contract?

Accepted Answer

Under Dutch consumer protection law (Wet van Dam, art. 6:237 sub k BW), a multi-year consumer contract may not bind you for more than one year, unless you can cancel at any time after the first year with a notice period of no more than 1 month. Cancellation penalties, loss of accrued payouts and switching bans that effectively lock you in until the end of the calendar year fall under this standard too. A duration clause that restricts your right to cancel in this way is presumed unreasonably onerous and therefore voidable. Note: this applies to B2C agreements only; B2B contracts are excluded. Joulo uses a per-calendar-year contract: you can cancel at any time, free of charge, effective at the end of the calendar year. To switch to another booking service provider on 1 January, cancel by 30 November.

Which chargers are supported by which ERE provider?

Joulo supports 67 charger brands with 31 direct cloud integrations plus OCPP for the rest. Laadloon reads Easee and Zaptec directly and connects other OCPP brands via Plugchoice. Voltico lists 40+ models and reads out via OCPP or your existing charging platform, without direct cloud integrations. Lekkerladen says it reads out automatically via your charger manufacturer or operator, but publishes no brand list, so you cannot check upfront whether your model qualifies. Can I manage multiple grid connections or companies under one ERE account?

With Joulo, yes. Business accounts and HOAs manage multiple grid connections (EANs) from a single account, with a separate mandate per connection. A holding adds each company as an entity with its own Chamber of Commerce number and payout IBAN • the quarterly payout follows the entity IBAN.
