How much can you earn from home charging?
Depending on the ERE market price and service provider • typically €100–€500 per year. See the official NEa formula.
For every kWh that goes into the electric car through your own charger, a piece of ERE credit is created. Those credits are sold at a market price. The indicative payout for 2026 is around €0.05–€0.09 net per kWh, depending on the ERE market price and the service fee of your registration partner (such as Joulo).
Official NEa formula (2026)
The number of ERE credits is calculated automatically in the Energy for Transport Registry (REV). The formula for grid electricity is:
kWh × 0.505 × 183 × 3.6 / 1000
Where 183 g/MJ is the fossil reference value and 3.6 MJ/kWh is the conversion factor. Factor 0.505 is the renewable share of the Dutch electricity mix (CBS 2024, applies to 2026). For consumers this grid average always applies, regardless of own solar panels.

Three factors determine your earnings
1. How many kWh you charge per year through your charger 2. The market price of ERE credits in that year 3. The service fee of Joulo as registration partner • compare all providers
Important: The payout goes to the person or organization with the energy contract behind the charger. The EAN code of the connection in the Central Connections Register (CAR) determines who is entitled to the payout. That is not always the driver of the car, but usually the owner or tenant of the location.
