The MID-certified version of the Tesla Wall Connector Gen 3 qualifies directly for ERE registration through Joulo. Here is what to know before you book an installer, and what happens during the installation itself.

    Why the MID version specifically

Not every Tesla Wall Connector Gen 3 has a built-in MID meter. The MID version carries a certified kWh meter, which the Dutch Emissions Authority (NEa) requires for ERE registration. Without MID certification your charging sessions simply do not count. When buying, check that the product description explicitly says "MID". The Gen 3 is available including an installation package from specialised installers such as De Laadpaalmonteur.

    What you need

The Wall Connector runs on three-phase 400V (max 22 kW / 32A per phase) or single-phase 230V. For most Dutch homes a 16A or 25A group per phase is the reality; you set the amperage on the charger itself after installation. Leave this to a certified installer: they calculate the available capacity in your meter cupboard and pick the right circuit breaker.

You also need copper wiring (no aluminium), a suitable RCD plus circuit breaker, and a fixed wall mount at 45 to 150 cm height. The unit is IP55 rated and can hang outside, though a canopy is recommended.

    The installation steps in short

There are three cable entry options: from the back, from below or from above. The installer picks the one that matches how the wiring runs to the spot. After that:

    1. Fix the mounting bracket to the wall (minimum load capacity 36 kg)
    2. Feed the wiring through and connect it to the screw terminals (L1, L2, L3, N, earth)
    3. Set the amperage with the rotary switch inside the unit (6-32A)
    4. Close the cover and switch the power on • a green LED means ready
    5. Set up the WiFi connection through the Tesla app for firmware updates and remote diagnostics

The full official installation manual is on tesla.com. You can also download the PDF version (in Dutch).

    Power Sharing

Two Teslas at home? The Gen 3 supports Power Sharing: up to four Wall Connectors can share one group and distribute the available power automatically. It requires an extra signal cable between the units (max 15 m). One unit is configured as master, the rest as slaves. For ERE registration each unit counts as a separate charging point, provided each has its own MID meter.

    After installation: connect to Joulo

Once the charger is on the wall and has WiFi, you connect it to Joulo through the Tesla API. Joulo reads your charging data automatically • after that there is nothing left for you to do. Sessions from 1 January 2026 onwards qualify retroactively, even if you sign up only now.

Sign up at joulo.nl/en/signup or request a quote if you do not have a charger yet.
