The EAN double check: registered on the right connection

Joulo checks your address against the connection registry and against what your charger reports. So your registration sits on the right EAN.

ERE credits are registered with the NEa per connection • not per person and not per charger. Every connection has its own EAN code: 18 digits that identify exactly one electricity connection in the Netherlands. You'll find it on your energy bill.

One wrong digit, and your registration sits on the wrong connection. That's why Joulo doesn't rely on retyping alone, but checks it twice • automatically.

Check 1: your address against the connection registry

During registration we look up your address in the national registry of energy connections. That tells us which EAN code belongs to your address. We pre-fill it for you, and whatever ends up being recorded is checked against that same registry. If something doesn't add up, we catch it before anything goes to the NEa.

Check 2: your charger against your address

The software of many chargers knows the address where the device is installed. We read that information when you connect. If that install address matches your registration address, the chain is complete: this charger really sits behind this connection. Your dashboard then shows a single line: "Connection EAN 8716… confirmed automatically from your charger's address."

For roughly two out of three cloud-connected chargers the manufacturer supplies the install address (as of July 2026). For those chargers this second check happens entirely by itself.

What if the check doesn't complete automatically?

Not every brand shares the install address. In that case you confirm the link between your charger and your connection yourself in the dashboard • one click, and nothing else changes about your registration or your earnings.

    Why this matters

The mandate to a registration service provider is binding per connection. If your registration sits on the wrong EAN, your records at the NEa are incorrect and a submission can be rejected during verification. That's why we verify up front, not after the fact • the check runs in the background, all you see is the confirmation.
