For charger manufacturers
Register your integration
On this page, charger manufacturers register an integration with Joulo. We then read the charging sessions of your chargers and file them with the NEa, the Dutch emissions authority, for the owner. This needs no contract between you and Joulo. The owner of the charger decides on the connection.
MID first
Without a MID meter inside the charger housing, an integration produces no billable kWh. So that question comes first.

What a charger must deliver
What we need
A brand that meets these points connects without custom work. The full technical specification is on our developer site.
MID meter inside the housing
Only kWh from a MID-certified meter inside the charger itself count (Regeling energie vervoer, art. 9). A meter in the fuse box, or in a separate box next to the charger, does not count.
The charger reports that meter
The charger sends the readings of the MID meter, not of its own uncertified counter.
Fixed to one address
A mobile charger never counts, also not with a MID meter inside. One registration belongs to one charge point behind one grid connection. The charger returns the address where it is installed, in BAG format, as a second confirmation.
MID visible in the data
Put the MID variant in the model name, the part number or a field in your API. Then we do not need to ask the owner for a photo of the type plate.
OCPP 1.6J or an open API
With OCPP, the owner only sets our server URL. With a cloud API, the owner signs in through OAuth, and we fetch the start, stop and meter readings of each session.
History and speed
Sessions from 1 January 2026, and new sessions within 24 hours of the session end.
Proof per session
Every session names the serial number of the unit that measured it, and whether that unit has a MID meter. When a charger is replaced, old sessions keep the old serial number.
No customer password
The owner grants consent in your own screen. We get read-only access, and that access keeps working, also with multi-factor sign-in.
Every session, for every role
One endpoint returns every session, also while its signature is pending. What the owner sees does not depend on their role in your portal.
EU Data Act
The data belongs to the owner
Joulo relies on the EU Data Act (Regulation (EU) 2023/2854). It applies since 12 September 2025, and a connected charger falls under it. The Data Act gives the charger owner control over the data their charger generates.
- Art. 4
- The owner may access the data of their charger. Access is free of charge, easy, secure and, where relevant, continuous and in real time.
- Art. 5
- At the owner's request, the manufacturer makes the same data available to a third party that the owner chooses. This is free of charge for the owner.
- Art. 8
- The manufacturer shares that data on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory terms.
- Art. 9
- Any compensation from the recipient must be reasonable. For a small or medium-sized recipient, it may not exceed the direct costs of making the data available.
- Art. 3
- A charger placed on the market from 12 September 2026 makes its data accessible to the owner by design.
What this means for an integration with Joulo
Your customer decides
When an owner connects their charger to Joulo, they use their own right under Art. 4 and Art. 5. They do not need an agreement between Joulo and you for that.
No price per charger
Joulo is a small enterprise. A fee per charger, per session or as a share of ERE revenue goes beyond the direct costs that Art. 9 allows.
Your customer pays any fee
Every euro a fee takes comes out of the payout to the owner of your charger. Chargers without a MID meter, which earn nothing, would count too.
OCPP needs no permission
An owner can point an OCPP charger at Joulo directly. One open, documented API works for every service an owner picks.
An agreement with Joulo covers security, support and service levels. It does not put a price on the owner's access to their own data. Under the Data Act, that access is the owner's right, not a product we buy.
