Connecting Victron to Joulo for ERE registration

Victron joins the line-up. If you run a Victron system with Venus OS, you can now connect your EV Charging Station to Joulo through VRM. Joulo then reads your charging sessions automatically, so there is nothing left to track by hand.

What is Victron?

Victron Energy is a Dutch manufacturer of energy systems: inverters, home batteries, solar charge controllers and the Venus OS management platform. The Victron EV Charging Station is their charger, which you control and read out together with your solar panels and home battery through VRM (Victron Remote Management). Joulo uses that VRM data to process your charging sessions for EREs (Emission Reduction Units).

How to connect Victron to Joulo

In Joulo you pick Victron and paste a personal access token that you create once at vrm.victronenergy.com. The token does not expire and you can revoke it at any time. After that, Joulo fetches the energy data of your EV Charging Station in the background and reconstructs complete charging sessions from it, retroactively too.

Important: Joulo only reads your charging data. We do not control your charger and cannot start or stop your charging.

Does the Victron EV Charging Station count for ERE registration

Honest answer: not by itself. The Victron EV Charging Station (NS) has no built-in MID-certified meter. For ERE registration only energy charged through a MID-metered delivery point counts, so the sessions from this charger cannot simply be registered.

Good news for the future: we are in contact with Victron and waiting for a charging station with a MID-certified meter fitted at the factory. That charger does not replace your current one by itself: you buy the MID version, or you have a MID-certified meter fitted inside the station you already own.

If you want to take part today, there are three routes:

1. A quote for a new charger with a built-in MID meter, in place of your Victron.
2. Have a MID-certified meter fitted inside the charging station itself, if there is room. Not as a separate meter in your meter cupboard • your installer's invoice or statement is the proof.
3. A Secondary Allocation Point (SAP) from your grid operator: a separate metering point for your charger. Liander charges €280.82 once, then €46.06 per year. Enexis charges €629.09 once, then €30.08 per year. Stedin works with a quote. These are the 2026 rates, VAT included. You also need a separate energy contract on the new metering point. On this route the grid operator's meter counts. Your Victron stays connected as a check, but it does not count.

Your sessions count from the moment the MID meter is in place. What you charged before that does not count later.

A separate meter in your meter cupboard does not count: for private home charging it has never been a valid route. The VRM connection stays useful for your own insight, but it does not produce EREs. Only kWh measured by a MID meter can be registered, so that count starts on the day the meter is in place.
