Registered twice for ERE? Here is how it works, and how to switch

Where the confusion comes from

January 2026 was busy. The scheme started, providers popped up everywhere and many EV drivers signed up with two or three at the same time. Just to see who worked best. Understandable, but some of those people now have two active registrations for the same connection.

Add a second source of noise. Some providers write to their customers that they have already registered the connection with the NEa. Switching, they say, is therefore impossible. We get those emails forwarded. The regulation says something else.

The rule: one provider per connection, per calendar year

You give one registration provider a mandate to book your charging sessions. That mandate is tied to your name, your address and the EAN code of your connection. It runs per full calendar year, from 1 January to 31 December. A mandate for several years is allowed, but switching is only possible on 1 January. That is in the Regeling energie vervoer, article 9, and the NEa explained it again in June 2026 in its webinar on booking electricity.

Two parties booking the same kWh is double counting. The verifier rejects that. So for 2026 you pick one party. You cancel the other.

"Your EAN is already at the NEa"

This is not correct, and it is worth knowing why.

The mandate is an agreement between you and your registration provider. The NEa does not receive it. There is no desk where a provider records or reserves your connection in advance. Your EAN only enters the Register Energie voor Vervoer at the moment your charging sessions are actually booked. That has been possible since release 2 of the register, September 2026 (in Dutch). Before that, nobody's connection was in it.

The NEa is still studying whether the register will warn when an EAN is entered twice. As long as that warning does not exist, every registration provider has to secure in the mandate itself that you are with one party only. We do that too. It is an agreement on paper, not a lock on your connection.

If you get such an email, read your terms and conditions. They say when your mandate ends and how you cancel. That is what counts, not a registration that does not exist.

Switching for 2027 is possible now

You do not have to wait until December. Signing up and switching for 2027 is possible today. Because the mandate runs per calendar year, the switch takes effect on 1 January 2027. For 2026 your current provider keeps booking and paying out your charging sessions. From 1 January 2027 we take over.

This is how it works:

• Sign up now and connect your charger. You see your charging sessions in your dashboard right away.
• In your registration, choose 1 January 2027 as your start date and fill in who you are with now.
• Cancel your current mandate per 31 December 2026. Check your terms and conditions for how.
• From 1 January 2027 we book your charging sessions. Until then they count with your current party.

And if you want to leave us?

Then you cancel. Simply, in your dashboard, whenever you want and free of charge. We do not send an email saying your connection is stuck at the NEa, because it is not. You choose a registration provider on trust. If that trust is gone, we do not hold you back.

One thing you should know. Your cancellation takes effect on 1 January. Until 31 December we remain your provider, we book your charging sessions and we pay them out. If you do not want to wait and withdraw your mandate now, we stop immediately. But nobody can book those charging sessions this year anymore. Not your new party, because we are registered for this year. Not us, because your mandate is gone. Those sessions lapse. We do not pay them out, and neither does anyone else.

Wait until 1 January, and nothing is lost.
