Enphase owners get paid every three months for charging at home, through Joulo

Joulo reads charging sessions from the Enphase IQ EV Charger through the Enphase API. Joulo never controls the charger: the system keeps running exactly as the owner set it up.

Brummen, the Netherlands, 20 September 2026 • Owners of an Enphase IQ EV Charger 2 in the Netherlands now receive a payment through Joulo for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) they charge at home. Since 14 May 2026, Joulo has read their charging sessions through the Enphase API. Nothing changes to the charger, the solar panels or the battery. By 20 September, Enphase owners had charged more than 330,000 kWh at home through Joulo.

Read only, never control

Choosing Enphase means choosing one system: solar panels, IQ Battery and IQ EV Charger, managed together in the Enphase App. Joulo leaves that system alone. Joulo does not control the charger, changes no settings and adds no extra meter or hardware. The IQ EV Charger charges the way the owner and the Enphase App decide, for example on solar power or at the cheapest hour.

Joulo only fetches the charging sessions, through the Enphase API and with the owner's consent. The owner gives that consent on Enphase's own sign-in screen, and can end the connection at any time.

Connected in seconds

Connecting takes the owner one sign-in at Enphase. Between 14 May and 20 September 2026, half of all owners saw their first charging sessions in Joulo within 13 seconds of giving consent, and eight in ten within one minute. Joulo then loads every session since 1 January 2026 automatically. Demand grew fast: within two months, the Enphase API team raised Joulo's capacity to 75,000 calls per month.

From kilowatt-hours to payout

Since 1 January 2026, every kWh charged at home with a MID-certified meter yields an Emission Reduction Unit (ERE) under Dutch law. The IQ EV Charger 2 has that meter from the factory. Joulo validates the sessions, registers them with the Dutch Emissions Authority (NEa) and pays the owner every quarter. Sessions from 2026 can be registered until 25 February 2027.

After net metering ends

Many Joulo customers with an IQ EV Charger also run Enphase solar panels and an IQ Battery. Net metering ends in the Netherlands on 1 January 2027. From then on, exported power earns little. For every kWh the owner charges at home, the owner receives a payment through Joulo instead.

“People who own Enphase chose a system that just works. We don't touch it. We only read the charging data through the Enphase API, and we make sure the owner gets paid every quarter.”
