Alfen chargers & ERE certificates: what you need to know

Got an Alfen charger at home? Then you are well prepared for the ERE scheme. Alfen is one of the most common charger brands in the Netherlands, and every model with a built-in MID meter satisfies the requirements of the Dutch Emissions Authority (NEa).

Alfen ERE registration: MID check and earnings

Why Alfen qualifies for ERE registration

The NEa sets one hard requirement for participation: your charger must have a MID-certified energy meter. That meter records every charging session precisely, so the CO2 reduction can be officially demonstrated and converted into EREs (Emission Reduction Units).

The Alfen Eve Single • by far the most popular home charger in the Netherlands • comes with a MID meter as standard. The same goes for the business models in the Alfen Eve series. You do not need to change anything about your installation.

Which Alfen models are compatible?

Joulo supports the most common Alfen models, including:

  • Alfen Eve Single S-line MID • the standard home charger
  • Alfen Eve Single Pro-line MID • with extended connectivity
  • Alfen Eve Double Pro-line MID • for double charging points

Not sure about your specific model? Check your charger through Joulo • it takes less than a minute.

Alfen through your employer or owners' association?

Many Alfen chargers were installed through an employer contribution or an owners' association (VvE) arrangement. In those cases you can still qualify for EREs, provided the grid connection is registered in your name in the Central Connections Register (through your EAN number).

Do you have a business charging point, or do you charge through a shared installation? Get in touch and we will gladly look at what is possible.

How to connect your Alfen charger to Joulo

Alfen chargers communicate through an API connection. Joulo uses that connection to read your charging sessions automatically • read-only access, nothing about your settings can be changed.

Connecting takes less than 5 minutes on average and runs entirely through the Joulo dashboard.

What does it earn?

With an average charging volume of 3,000 kWh per year • typical for someone driving around 15,000 kilometres • the current net guide price of €0.12 to €0.15 per kWh works out to roughly €360 to €450 per year. Market dependent, and fully automatic, with no extra effort on your side.
