Free EV charging at your neighbour's

Free EV charging sounds like an offer with an asterisk. Yet it exists, without the asterisk: at a neighbour, friend or family member with a home charger. The sum is in the ERE.

Why a public charge point costs € 0.46

At a public charge point you pay € 0.46 per kWh on average. About a third of that is power. The rest is the line of parties in between: operator, charge card, roaming, maintenance, VAT. So a 12 kWh session on the road costs you about € 5.50.

Why it can be free at your neighbour's

Home-charged kWh earn the owner of the connection ERE credits: about € 0.16 per kWh, based on our realised sale prices. At Tibber the average charging price sits around that same amount. Your session then costs your host nothing: the ERE pays for the power. Only on a fixed tariff of 25 cents does your host add about a euro on a 12 kWh session. You pay nothing, and no money needs to change hands.

A home charger also sits idle 18 to 20 hours a day (Dutch study). Those hours cost your host nothing extra, and you drive off with a full battery.

How you charge for free

Someone with a charger connected to Joulo sends you an invitation. You create a free Joulo account and accept. On the driveway you tap 'I'm charging now' in the app and plug in • no charge card. As soon as your session arrives, you claim it. That is all. No invitation yet? In the app you search who you can charge with in your street.

Who is this for?

For everyone without a driveway who knows someone with one: neighbours, parents, friends. As a guest you only need a free Joulo account, no Tibber contract. And for anyone with a charger who wants to welcome someone: we launch Joulo Share together with Tibber, for Tibber customers with a dynamic contract and a charger with a factory-fitted MID meter. Joulo charges no service fee on shared kWh.
